Farook Mahmood

Chairman & Managing Director at Silverline Group

I was born in a business family of Bangalore with a lineage of two centuries, involved in business. My ancestors were involved in trade, and hailed from Gujarat (Kutch) in north India.

The initial foray into business (textiles) in Bangalore was initiated by my grandfather Haji Yunus Sait in the late 1800s. Incidentally, he co-founded the famous Century Club in Bangalore, one of the nation’s premium cosmopolitan clubs. He was also a Rotarian and president of the Cutchi Memon Jamath. Haji Yunus Sait was known for his philanthropy too. He built orphanages and mosques in and around Bangalore.

My father Mahmood Yunus Sait then inherited the business and diversified into furniture and real estate in 1947. The Furniture House Agency came into being under his stewardship.

I joined the family business in the early 1980s and diversified in different fields of real estate.
